Christmas Round-Up

New Year is upon us and I have the same resolutions - do more exercise and eat less/better.

We'll see how they're going in April when I set off for Florida. I hope to feel a damn sight better than I looked the last time I went to the US of A which was pretty much a beached whale 100% of the time.

Before the Christmas Holidays Jay and I were told we weren't going to be in our new house by Christmas which was in all honesty the definition of a 'shitter'. The current owners of our house has gone on holiday to Australia and a couple in the chain have split up so for now everything is on hold and it's beginning to get ever so slightly stressful*. Estate agent says worst case scenario we will be in by the end of January....i've got everything crossed. Fingers, toes, eyes. I'm living on the edge, if we don't move in soon then I will go blind if the wind changes, or so i've heard.

So after that nugget of information we decided to make the most of not paying a mortgage in December and enjoy Christmas instead. I spent Christmas eve at the Pub with friends and family whilst Jay spent it at home after we had an argument about his 'runny nose' AKA Man Flu. I returned from the pub nicely trollied and ate an entire home made sausage roll in what seemed like 10 seconds flat when I got in the door. I really don't know what I was thinking.

Christmas Day was one of the best yet, it was just us 4 - Mum, Dad, Jay and I. I of course woke Jay up at 8am, jumping on the bed demanding to go downstairs and open gifts. I am a firm believer that I will never be too old for Christmas. My parents were awake before me, this is further proof in the Green family that nobody is ever too old for Christmas excitement. We all opened some presents downstairs where I received a coat, a jumper, Diesel Loverdose perfume, Jamie's 15 minute meals, a 'throw' for my sofa if I ever get in the new house and a stocking full of house goodies such as a peeler, garlic crusher and a tin opener amongst other things.

We got dressed and went down to Jay's parents to do even more presents there before returning to my house for dinner. They were VERY generous indeed, we are lucky lucky people!

We attempted a board game - Dragon's Den. After playing for 15 minutes we all agreed it was literally the worst board game we had ever come across and thought the best use for it would be the bin. So we jacked that in and tested out Dad's new 3D TV by watching Avengers. Got 10 minutes in an the entire thing froze so we had to turn that off, instead we rented MIB3 which was awesome because i'd already seen it at the Cinema and gotta love Big Willy Style. (Ahem.) The main disappointing thing about this film is the fact they do not have the original Men In Black theme song playing at the end - somebody has made a large error in judgement there. "Gaaaaaaaalaxy defenders!" Come on! I now also have "Wild Wild West" theme tune in my head. "Wicky wild wild!" Is there any end to the talent of Will Smith? I think not.

Damien, Caroline and Summer came round in the evening along with Nanny Mo & Grandad Pete which was nice as we were excited to see Summer open her presents. Our excitement for that was shot to bits when Summer wasn't interested in opening anything whatsoever. A child who is not excited by Christmas - is there a greater travesty? To be honest I think she was just over whelmed at everything poor little soul, she was quite content sitting on Damien's lap eating houmous off a breadstick. Small pleasures.

I've written about the presents, the people, the games and films - HELLO THE DINNER. It was sensational if I do say so myself. Mother and I excelled ourselves. There was four of us yet we have Turkey, Gammon, Pork joint & Beef. We could have just had a joint of meat each alas we're greedy so had a bit of each and then cold meat sandwiches for the rest of 2013. We had a 'trio of fish' for starter LA DEE DA. Smoked Salmon, Salmon mousse & Chilli and Coriander prawns. I actually can't talk about it any further because I am realising Christmas is gone and I will not indulge in such a good roast dinner until next Christmas. Boohoo.

On Boxing Day we split ourselves between houses. First went to my Sister's house to open presents there where I got the Michael McIntyre DVD & a loving hanging wooden heart with some pics of Molly Mo inside to hang in my new house. Such great gifts this year! Not that they have been bad on other years of course. We stayed there for a while then hot footed it over to Jay's Mum & Dad's house where we played some sort of Michael Jackson dancing game on the Wii which I was terrible at, but managed to win some how. Probably because I was playing Jay. (No offence love!) We spoke to Jay's Uncle on Facetime who is in New Zealand - this contraption never fails to astound me. (Good lord I sound really old.)

I went back to work on 27th/28th then on Saturday I was struck down with a cold & cough. cough started first just to taunt me, then the runny nose/blocked nose started. Then to top it all off I got a generous helping of conjunctivtis. My left eye was the stickiest thing since sticky the stick insect got stuck to a sticky stick. Luckily Mother has some drops in the fridge and after 3 days my eyes returned to normal.

The parents swanned off to New York City on 28th and are as we speak cruising back on the Queen Mary 2, they will arrive in Southampton next week. It's been such a shame for them because my Dad has been really ill with Bronchitis and has had to spend 2 days in the hotel. I hope he feels better soon :o(

New Year was a really lovely evening even if I did have sticky eye. I drank a whole bottle of wine and felt tired instead of drunk. I hate that! It was an Oscars themed party and we all won awards. Mine was for "Canine appreciation of cruelty to cats award" due to the inappropriate remark I made regarding Freddie, Caroline's cat who's 9 lives are pretty much up. Brilliant. I am a terrible human being.

In other news there was a canapĂ© competition and I won both catergories; sweet and savoury! Winner! Really pleased because it was voted for by the kind party goers. Just over a year at catering college paid off!

We released lanterns at midnight one with personal messages on it, one with jokes and one with movie quotes. I wrote a nice message about Nanny Ruby, I hope some how some way she may know about it, still miss her everyday.

2012 was a good year, 2013 is going to be even better. New House, Florida and the possibility of a trip to New York at the end of the year. Yay! New beginnings :o)
