The Admiral and his Elephant

It's that crappy time of the year again where you have to renew the car insurance. It started off a bit of a pain in the arse but it's actually worked out rather well. Good old Diamond quoted me £966 - NINE HUNDRED AND SIXTY SIX SQUIDS! That was pretty much not happening, so with the go compare opera man with the twirly fake moustache running around my head - I set about my investigation. I found Admiral and Elephant were both cheaper and cheaper still when I added old papa to the line up! So I phoned Diamond all ready with my 'I'm leaving and you can't stop me' speech - turns out that wasn't necessary because they matched the deal and not only that bettered it! (Bettered a word? Who cares!) So good times on the insurance front. Wahey!

It's Dad's birthday next week which is exciting! Although more exciting for him cos he is off to Dublin with Mum and Calum & Karen. That's okay, I didn't want to go anyway! Pah! In all seriousness i'm only a little sad cos I won't get to see him turn 50, although I don't really know what i'm expecting; perhaps a sudden break out of wrinkles. He will probably look the same on his return.

Before I forget I have to document Pompey's sudden winning form. Now I say sudden, this is because we have mostly been so awful it hurts my eyes. However, the last 4 matches have been 4 wins AND 4 clean sheets to boot! I don't know what Cotterill is putting in their Lucozade but whatever it is, it's working! After listening to the radio the first half of what sounded like the most one sided match ever we some how managed to come away from Ipswich with a 2 nil win. Less questions asked the better, i'm just pleased this goodness is making itself known! Yay! Relegation was a possibility (a minor one, but still...) a mere 2 weeks ago but now look at us, 12 points from 12 points. Yeeeeeeeeah you heard it.

I would really like to write more but I feel that this is the most positive note to end on. Plus it's clearly not the right time to be writing this!

Ciao Bella! (I don't even know what that means, it just sounds good.)

The New Florist

So yesterday everybody was either loved up or found vomming in a bin at the sight of all the loved up comments on Facebook or Twitter or < insert social networking site here >. I however, took it with a pinch of salt and got on with my working day. Sat here typing away whilst flowers poured into the office I swear you may have mistaken IBM for an actual florist at one stage. I dropped a very subtle hint on facebook.....to no avail! Sara's Husband Steve is away in Spain but he sent her flowers to work - awwww, well it would have been 'awwww' except Sara was working at home yesterday. The lovely Mrs Leason happens to live about a 30 second walk from my house so I kindly offered to take them home to her. It was worth it - the amount of looks and comments I got walking out of work with this huge bunch of flowers was unreal. I thought about going through the whole 'They're not mine, friend working at home, these from Husband' but the opportunity was too great and I held them proud pretending they were from a secret admirer - teehee! This story is a lot better than the last flower story I divulged a couple of blogs down.

I got home and very quickly it became apparent that I was freakin' marvin'. So I whipped out the iPhone and texted Jayboy. He informed me he was leaving his new house (one that is empty and cold without a kitchen and bathroom) and going back to his parents house (one that is homely and warm with a fully fitted kitchen and bathroom) and would let me know when to come round. Not gonna lie, I was a bit peeved that he wasn't already home however, before I had a chance to get angry/sad/eat my own arm off in hunger there was a knock at the door. Cue Jay at the door with 10 red roses and a bright red card. - Who said romance is dead!? The first ever flowers i'd received. I'm 23 years old and these are the first flowers i've received, the first that weren't for 'i'm sorry' or 'i'm about to cheat on you' anyway - (they don't count, btw.)

We were going to get Chinese take away and watch a movie (he'd bought 'Valentine's Day' for us to watch) and after looking at the menu for 15 minutes then deciding to have the same thing I always have I found myself dialling the number. "Welcome to Mai King, we are now closed for Chinese New Year, we will be returning February 18th" - Not even the 10 red roses could hide my disappointment. We ended up having a curry and even though the chinese will have to wait for another weekend we had a lovely evening. He even offered to be my chauffeur in his Citroen C3 - does it get better than that?! Probably shouldn't answer that. Lovely gesture, as Zoey may say.

I laid in bed last night perusing a website which showed the Grammy's red carpet. I like to browse at what people have chosen to wear to these occasions and it always amazes me that people turn up looking like they got dressed in the dark. Jordin Sparxx turned up in a hideous red frock which made Lady GaGa's entrance in an actual egg look good. I actually thought Kevin McHale looked quite dashing in a white tuxedo - but then hey i'm bias cos I just love a bit of Glee! Grammy's will be shown in the UK on Wednesday at 10pm on ITV2. Is it wrong I quite enjoyed the Usher/Bieber performance, my street cred (if I had any) has just gone waaaaay down.

Tonight will be spent mostly watching The Brits - I sincerely hope Mumford win something, they deserve it with all they've achieved the past year. I'd be voting it best album that's for sure.

Ciao amigos, I should probably do some work!

Funny Valentine

Happy Valentines everybody! Some say it's just another day like any other and you should show your loved one the same affection everyday - screw that! I think it's lovely to have such a day to be extravagant and go all out to show somebody how much you love them. Jay and I are doing this tonight in the form of take away and possibly a movie. I've got him something rather large & edible. (Teehee, that sounds naughty, it's not...) Infact, the chances are he probably thinks it's naff and that I haven't put in any effort but the truth is I have little money and i'm on a show string budget! He'll understand! Anyway, it kinda suits that we've been together 1 year on Saturday, 1 whole year since we went on a nervous date to Zizzi, and he told me "If I had to rate your smile out of 10, it'd be a 10" - what a line! Got me. :-)

This weekend was crazy, so crazy I thought about spelling 'crazy' with a 'K' although I don't like bad grammar, so I have chosen not to.

Friday night we went to a charity gig at the Rifle Club in Fratton. Dawne met us there and it was a grand old knees up. I may have drank too much, I say may - I definitely drank too much. Ended up going to a kebab house after, I can honestly say I lost all track of time I have no idea what time we got in. All I know is that I fell in the door of the loo in the 'restaurant' (embarrassing) and then threw up what I had eaten when I got in (classy). I am absolutely amazed that I didn't feel too hungover the next day. Actually can't believe it. I am also amazed that this is only the 3rd time ever in the history of forever that I have been sick from drinking. To top it off, I woke up in the morning to find my bed had actual broken and I was laying at a slight angle.

Jay and I toyed with the idea of going down for breakfast but then fell back to sleep and woke up around 11:30, whoops! We watched the United/City match which had a couple of great goals, and in the eve we did home made pizza! The dough was immense! Definitely something I want to do again. Jay's was like a chilli, hot chilli, hot hot chilli pizza though so I didn't think much of it, but he likes to go overboard on the chilli on almost everything so no surprise there!

Yesterday was good fun, old Stokesy was back from his travels around South America so we all met up for lunch and a game of bowling! I came third in the bowling, my standards are clearly slipping. I blame Friday night to be fair. We met his new girlfriend Alex, really lovely to meet her, she'll fit right in with everybody for sure.

I was pretty much in bed by 7:30 last night, watched the Baftas at 9, then couldn't sleep till about 12:30 but eventually managed to zonk out. The King's Speech pretty much cleaned up at the Baftas as expected. I have new love for Helena Bonham Carter, her speech was really funny and she seems like a cool, if a little weird lady! As Dawne pointed out Tim Burton still hasn't found a hair brush. Sir Christopher Lee is looking OLD like seriously old. I knew he was old, but not that old. Natalie Portman won Best Actress for Black Swan - seriously need to see this film again. Loved it! Definitely one for the DVD collection. The next few films on the agenda to be seen are -

Never let me go
True Grit
Paul

Also, I am actually too excited about Hangover II! YES! This time it's in Thailand, but I think they lose Doug again. Liam Neeson has a cameo and Mr Chow is back, haha! Hitting cinemas in May - can't wait!

Righty ho, i'm going back to the future. See ya!

Love & Other Drugs (Flowers)

So Valentine's Day is fast approaching. Probably one of the shittiest days to pass you by when you're single; the shops are filled with heart, cards, 'romantic' chocolates and everything pink & red. It's just a crappy reminder that you're alone and you have nobody to shower you with love!

This year is different, in the fact that i've actually got another half - who'd a thought it? (Who woulda thought, woulda thought, woulda thought it? Who woulda thought life could be this way? BANDITS!) Getting back on track, to say that I now have somebody in my life to be showered with love and valentines surprises makes me feel awesome! However, it doesn't actually mean that I will be showered with love and valentines surprises. This is the boy who once said "I thought about getting you flowers but then decided not to" - Apparently it's the thought that counts. I have only ever received 1 rose on valentines and I practically forced Dave to buy it for me at a cheap flower stall at Reading Train Station. And they say romance is dead. Tell I lie, I once received the most beautiful bouquet of flowers at work when I was at The Listening Company. It came with a note which said "Emily" and then it had a load of drivel signed by "Nick". Well at that time, I didn't know anybody called Nick (to be fair, I still don't but that's not the point) and I had serious doubts on that they were for me. Apparently I was the only Emily on the 4th floor so they had to be for me. In the end, after trying to track down any other Emilys in the building I did find another Emily and she adamantly said she definitely didn't know anybody called Nick and that they must be for me. Even thought I knew they were definitely not for me, I had no choice but to take them home, being stared at the whole way on the train with this huge bunch of flowers covering my entire face. So the next morning there is a bang at the door, a very angry florist lady who proceeds to shout at me for taking these flowers home. Queue me handing her back the snipped flowers in a tesco carried bag. As you can see my track record with flowers is not great. Perhaps that is why Jay only thought about it but didn't actually end up getting any, haha!

Needless to say whatever happens on Valentines, this time last year I was walking Millie Dog on the hill and that is where we first met up for a chat - Millie ended up taking a chunk out of his finger but I guess that's what you get for trying to take her ball off of her :-) Next weekend it'll be exactly a year together, that is lonnnng for me, so we're going to Loch Fyne and for cocktails - I canny wait!

I sincerely hope all the singletons out there looking for love find it sometime soon. I actually don't care how queer this sounds - love is awesome! xoxo

Americano!

Last Saturday Jay and I went to Thomas cook aaaaaaand we book a holiday! Hoorah! September the 16th we will be off to Orlando, Florida for 2 weeks! I almost can not contain my excitement, waaahooo!

It'll be my first holiday away with Jay, just us two. I'm preparing for me wanting to rip his head off at some point, but that could happen any day of the week. Gotta love the boy! :-)

I am severely worried about my feet dropping off at some point during the holiday, I wonder if there is some mini foot spa that I am able to take?! Probably a bit far fetched. My American buddy Alan says Florida residents are mostly elderly people, pretty weird how somebody who lives in the US has this opinion but everybody here thinks it's all theme parks and restaurants! To be honest for me it WILL be all theme parks and restaurants. My Mum would never take us when we were little cos I didn't like rides and we thought there was little point taking a child to Florida who would be the 'bag holder' at all the theme parks. Plus it's expensive, as Jay and I have found out! We have started paying well in advance though so we should be ok!

So the count down begins, 200 odd days to go...!

In amongst booking holidays we went out to Las Iguanas for some brasilian specialities! 2-4-1 cocktails went down a treat! I just love a Long Island Iced Tea! So so yum! We had a great meal and I had some mega prawns, they were delish! A bit tipsy we got a taxi home and just as I got in the taxi I though 'hmm I need to pee' by the time we got home it had been the most excruciating journey ever, never needed to pee so bad! We had, had 4 cocktails and Jay didn't even need to go.....there is something wrong with that boy! I go too much and he doesn't go enough. Okay, so that's enough about peeing - really not the best of subjects.

Visits Dawne D's new flat last week - it is immense! She has done a grand job of seeking out this one! Looking forward to the official house warming in a few weeks! I got the ferry over and back last friday and we went for a curry at the Bengal somethingorrather. The Gosport ferry is an experience to say the least. I was on 'The Spirit of gosport' - pah! Never heard such gubbins.

Dropped the boys off at the Blue Cobra for Adam's birthday meal last night and then I headed to Beccas to help her tidy her room, this wasn't only Becca being lazy it was an actual job for 2 people. Even though you can only fit 2 people in that bedroom even when it's tidy. It took a couple of hours and hell fire it was ridiculous! She is the Mother of all hoarders, keeps absolutely everything even if it's a receipt from 1990. I managed to force her to chuck a lot of crap out, it now looks clean-ish, or at least clean enough for Beth to sleep in there tonight!

Tonight I am finally getting to see Black Swan (courtesy of Pete!), I really hope I like it. Heard Portman is a shining light in it, but also heard it's very dark and gloomy. Verdict later!
